2018 February (Day outing)

On Saturday 18th February, a small bit enthusiastic group of members from the Young Adults Group, Comhaltas Chríost Rí, gathered together in St John's Church, Dun Laoghaire for a day of prayer, study and apostolate. The day began with Mass at 11am and was followed by a speedy lunch in the parish hall. The meeting's apostolic focus was that of the upcoming referendum to repeal and replace the 8th Amendment. An initial pep talk by Fr Ockerse placed the pro-life campaign in its broader spiritual context and was followed by a crash course in canvassing delivered by fellow member and seasoned campaigner, Brian O'Caithnia, providing those present with the training and information necessary to effectively canvas for the retention of the 8th Amendment. A subsequent hour-long stint of canvassing in the surrounding neighbourhood gave the members ample opportunity to put into practice the tips and skills acquired and to overcome any initial feelings of apprehensiveness! Upon an enthusiastic return, afternoon tea was followed by a highly informative discussion on St Louis de Montfort's great classic, 'The Secret of the Rosary', where the importance of reciting one's daily Rosary well and the devotion's immense efficacy were brought to light. The Rosary was then recited together as a group and the day came to a close with some pizza and a rousing sing-along before members parted company once more. The day was a great success and we look forward to many such opportunities to meet, study and pray in the year to come. ¡Viva Cristo Rey!
