On the great feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, eight men have been ordained as Catholic priests at the Society's seminary in Ecône, Switzerland

On June 29, Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais ordained 8 new priests: 5 Frenchmen, 2 Italians, and 1 Canadian. During this ceremony in Ecône, Switzerland, 2 new deacons were also ordained. A gallery of photos follows below.

During the sermon, Bp. Tissier commented on the rite of the ordination. He explained how the 3 secondary ceremonies after the ordination itself express the nature of the Catholic priest: a mediator between men and God.

The anointing of the hands:

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to consecrate and sanctify these hands by this unction and our blessing. That whatsoever they shall consecrate be consecrated and sanctified, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen"

The tradition of the chalice:

Receive the power to offer sacrifice to God and to celebrate Mass for the living as well as for the dead. In the name of the Lord."

The bestowal of the power to forgive sins:

Receive the Holy Ghost; whose sins thou shalt forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins thou shalt retain, they are retained."

On July 2, Bp. Fellay will ordain 3 priests (2 German and 1 Spaniard) at the SSPX seminary in Germany. Meanwhile, Bishop Alfonso de Galaretta will ordain 1 more Frenchman in St. Nicolas du Chardonnet at Paris.
