All-Ireland Crusade Meeting

On Saturday 21st October we held the first of the Quarterly All-Ireland Crusader meetings. This day was a “holiday for the soul,” when time could be taken to rest from the usual busy occupations of daily life to give some time to prayer, instruction and rekindling the friendships begun this year at the annual Crusader camp. This outing was held in Athlone, and featured a visit to the Athlone Castle.

Beginning with Mass at 11am there followed an opportunity for all to receive the sacrament of Penance. Lunch followed in the Parish hall and then there was a talk given by Fr Ockerse, in which the game ‘hangman’ was used to inculcate the basic truths of the daily struggle for vigilance and virtue. We paid a visit to the old castle where there were lessons to be learned about history and the hard-fought battles that took place there between the Catholics and Protestants. There were costumes to dress up in and funny hats to wear, providing a good opportunity for group photos. Following the tour, all returned to Corpus Christi Church to finish the day-out with rosary and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All done by 5pm, it was a day to remember for sure!
