Athlone Conference

What's it about?
The Holy Shroud : A powerful tool of Apologetics
This is certainly the artefact that has been studied the most extensively in the world to this day. All the major fields of knowledge have focused on it: medicine, chemistry, physics, biology, forensic sciences, photography, history, art, exegesis, and even music! Why? With a bit of reflection, the answer to this universal fascination is simple: Our Lord Jesus Christ is the King of the Universe, there is not a domain that escapes His power. He still draws all things to Himself!
Regularly, yearly even, in the news, the Shroud is mentioned as a mere medieval forgery. But truth is more exciting than fiction, and truth shall make us free. Father Couture will present the Holy Shroud, in all its main aspects, answering the objections against its authenticity, and leading us to the act of faith which saint John made on the morning of Easter: “He saw (the Shroud) and he believed (that Jesus had risen from the dead)!”
Tradidi quod et accepi: the Treasures of the Society of St Pius X
As time goes by and the crisis in the Catholic Church deepens, the providential figure of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre increases accordingly. He was convinced that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was truly the center of the Church and of the history of the world and that those who dared to touch this treasure in 1969 by introducing the New Mass were in fact undermining the very foundations of Church.
Many have come to the Society of St Pius X for one aspect or another (the liturgy, the sermons, the schools, etc. ), especially since Covid-19, in the last 5 years. The purpose of this talk is to help us realize that Providence had in fact prepared the Archbishop not just to save the Holy Mass and the Catholic priesthood but to pass on to us, today, and to future generations, all the elements needed to restore the Church and Christian civilisation.
